Album Review: Corinne Bailey Rae - The Sea

Corinne Bailey Rae - The Sea
3 1/2 out of 5 stars

If you're looking for the sunny, optimistic girl who once belted, "Girl, put your records on..." you won't find her in The Sea. Bailey Rae's sophomore effort is a true reflection of her personal turmoil, namely the sudden death of her husband in 2008. This time around, the singer/songwriter has crafted an album that is not only lyrically emotional, but also an intricate weave of rock, jazz and varied instrumentation. Though the album is tinged with moments of sadness, there are a few upbeat ones as well. "Closer" "Paris Nights/New York Mornings" and "The Blackest Lily" are raucous, full-band celebrations. The Sea is a much more intimate look at a another side of the pop singer.

Artists to Watch: Ke$ha

Who: Kesha Rose Sebert "aka" Ke$ha

What she's workin' with: #1 single, "Tik Tok", collaborations with Flo-Rida, Paris Hilton, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears, penned songs for pop singer, Miley Cyrus.

Fun Fact: Before Ke$ha ever made it big in the industry, she broke into Prince's Beverly Hills home because she wanted to give him her demo tape. Once discovered, she was thrown out. She was later quoted as saying, "It was harmless at the time, but looking back, it was pretty psychotic".

Check out the video that made Ke$ha famous, right here!

Lollapalooza Nears, Rumor-Mill in Full Effect!

Lady Gaga Image Via Flickr:
Summer is our favorite season. The days are longer, the nights are warmer, and there are plenty of concerts to enjoy! One of our favorites is Lollapallooza, an annual music festival that was founded by Jane's Addiction frontman, Perry Farrell in 1997.

Over the years, Lollapallooza has featured a wide range of bands, and has helped popularize Alt-Rock bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

We're definitely looking forward to Lollapallooza 2010, and a certain rumor has us feeling giddier than schoolgirls. Sources are reporting that Lady Gaga is in negotiations to perform as one of the headlining acts at Lollapallooza! Lady Gaga!! We can't wait to discover the final lineup, and find out if Lady Gaga will be taking the stage in Chicago this August!

For More information on Lollapallooza, check out the official Lollapallooza website.

Lifehouse to Tour with Daughtry, Drop New Album This March!

Here's a treat for Alt-Rock fans: Lifehouse has announced that they will be touring with Daughtry this summer! Tickets go on sale next month, just in time for the release of their new album, Smoke & Mirrors (March 2nd).

According to Live Daily, the key to the songwriting process for the forthcoming album was chemistry, said Wade, of Lifehouse, who worked with Jude Cole, Kevin Rudolf, Daughtry and Richard Marx on the album.

We're eager to hear what these collabos sound like on Smoke & Mirrors -- should be a good mix of pop and rock. If you can't wait to hear what the boys of Lifehouse have in store, you can pre-order your copy of Smoke & Mirrors right here.

Paradise Found! Market America World Conference 2010

We're all still buzzing about the 2010 Market America World Conference which took place a few weeks ago in Miami, Fl. Us music lovers are especially pleased with the crowning moment of the star-studded event-- the moment when Alejandro Sanz took center stage and sang his smash-hit single, "Looking for Paradise". There couldn't have been a better way to tie together the theme that continues to unify the Market America family. That weekend, it was evident that paradise was unfolding before our very eyes. Check out some of our photos from the show.
