Ketchup: The saga continues.
After reading this story on MSNBC.com arguing if Ketchup should be room temperature or refrigerated, I would definitely stand on the side of refrigeration. One of the points the author makes is "1) Cold ketchup is pretty gross, especially on hot food." My response to that is "Are you kidding? There is something about hot thick crinkle cut fries and cold ketchup. I'm indifferent to warm ketchup in that respect.
This also got me thinking about various other things that ketchup appears on. Last week, I took a buddy out to a diner and he put ketchup on his eggs. I thought it was a tad strange and then I took the ketchup and poured some on my steak. In high school, it was common practice to put ketchup on the rectangle pizzas for a flavor boost. Students who put mayo on their pizza and/or fries were ridiculed.
Have you ever been questioned about your use of ketchup? Tell us.

If you have a daughter, or a wife who is just learning to cook ketchup can be a lifesaver.
Colder is better cause it's consistent and will last longer .. .. room temperature is outta control could get too hot and spoil the ketchup.
Ketchup contains vinegar. Vinegar is never to be stored in room temperature after the bottle is opened.
I like Bob Evan's bean soup, but prefer a tomato based bean soup, so I always add ketchup and stir! This brings quite a few stares, especially from my server when I order just the soup and a bottle of ketchup.
Oh yes, I have been given a bad time for years for putting ketchup on my cottage cheese.
People: ketchup is sugar. Forget refrigeration or room temp. Store it in the garbage! Not only is it not good for you - it is an insult to the food.
Ketchup may be unhealthy and frowned upon in some circles, but in Europe it is a hard to find condiment. In Brussels and elsewhere on the continent, mayonnaise is the dip of choice for French fries. My kids were not happy about this issue when we dined at McDonalds. But in time they got used to this oddity and now still enjoy mayo on their fries. Sometimes the kids go wild and mix mayo and ketchup together. A culinary treat for sure.
